What Is CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast?

CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are the first FDA approved human collagen fillers commercially available. Both of these products are highly purified, human-based collagen that is developed under controlled laboratory conditions and is similar to collagen normally found in the skin. CosmoDerm is used to correct fine lines, wrinkles, lips and shallow scars in thin-skinned areas. CosmoPlast is used to fill in deep lines, furrows, lips and scars.

What Other Areas Respond Best To CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast Treatments?

The areas most frequently treated with collagen include: frown lines between the eyes, acne scars, cheek depressions, lines around the mouth, Marionette lines at the ends of the mouth, worry lines in the forehead, Crows feet at the eyes, deep smile lines, dimples and facial scars.

What Is The Treatment Like?

The treatment is performed at your doctor’s office and usually takes less than twenty minutes. CosmoDerm and /or CosmoPlast is injected just below the surface of the skin through a tiny needle. Several injections may be required, depending on the depth and length of the wrinkle. Unlike collagen, CosmoPlast injections are formulated with Lidocaine to minimize patient discomfort, however, patients with sensitive skin can receive an anesthetic numbing cream to the treatment area for additional comfort.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast provide immediate results in just one visit. So whether it’s correcting facial wrinkles or frown lines, you will see results instantly. Any discomfort following treatment should be minimal and you can return to your normal activities immediately. The treatment area may have a little swelling and that should disappear in a few hours. There may be some slight bruising which can be covered with make-up. Depending on the area, treatments usually last from three to six months. Most patients return for touch up treatments three to four times per year.
