Tumescent Liposuction
What
is Liposuction?
Liposuction
surgery is performed to remove localized fat deposits
unresponsive to weight loss and exercise.
While not yet a treatment for generalized obesity, this
technique is ideal for facial and body sculpturing or
contouring.
What
is the Tumescent Liposuction Technique?
Our
dermatologists specialize in the Tumescent Liposuction
technique. In
this technique, diluted anesthetic solution is injected
locally into the areas being treated.
Tiny skin incisions are then placed in the skin folds
and through these incisions that fat is removed using a
special fat extractor.
Unlike
past surgeries for body contouring, with the Tumescent
Liposuction technique, there is generally minimal scaring,
little discomfort and rapid recovery.
Who
are the best candidates?
Both
men and women can benefit from Liposuction surgery.
However, best results are usually obtained with
patients who are close to their ideal weight but have
stubborn, unattractive bugles that have not vanished with
weight loss. Liposuction is a means of contouring the body to
a more pleasing shape. It
is not a cure for obesity or substitute for weight loss.
People who are generally overweight should fist attempt to
lose weight through diet and exercise.
What
are the results?
Liposuction
helps you to lose inches, not pounds.
During your initial consultation, the dermatologist
will discuss the results that you can reasonably expect.
However, since this type of surgery does not require
large incisions, there is generally rapid healing, little pain
and minimal scaring. Most
patients can return to normal activates a few days after
surgery, but should avoid vigorous physical activity for
several weeks.
Are
there any risks?
Thousands
of liposuction surgeries are successfully performed each year.
While complications are rare, any possible risks will be
addressed at the time of your consultation.
